Special Olympics Cornwall helps to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports, giving people with learning difficulties the opportunity to challenge themselves and be part of a team environment.
Stand For has helped Special Olympics Cornwall by paying for the coach which took the athletes and volunteers to and from Sheffield for the National Games in 2017. This was followed by paying for the minibus that took the Boccia squad and volunteers to Exeter Airport for their flight to Glasgow and collected them from Exeter on return from the Anniversary Games held in Stirling 2018. Recently, Stand For has purchased competition and leisure shirts for the Boccia squad and very importantly 2 sets of championship boccia balls that have raised their level of performance.
Stand For is a major supporter of Special Olympics Cornwall and has helped athletes from around Cornwall to compete at both the National Games in Sheffield 2017 and the Anniversary Games in Stirling 2018. Both of these events have had positive, life-changing effects on the athletes, promoting self-confidence and belief in what they can achieve.
David Painter chairman of the Special Olympics South West region commented: “Having the support of Stand For has enabled the Boccia team to play at a higher standard with the purchase of the Classic Superior balls and they are proud to wear the team shirts with the Stand For logo alongside the Special Olympics Cornwall logo. We now play and look like a top-class team that represents Cornwall with pride.”
