In October 2011, Howard suffered a massive brain stem stroke.
Howard was left able to move only his eyelids. He needed specialised equipment, a place adapted to his condition, and the chance to live closer to home. The family needed support too, emotionally, practically, and in their battle with the local authority.
Stand For supported the family in their battle with the local authority to help Howard relocate closer to home, developing a plan to provide hope through his recovery. Stand For helped establish a trust to support him long-term.
Stand For purchased and adapted a property in Kingsbridge for Howard’s needs. The trust procured specialised equipment, including an eye gaze computer for communication, an electrical impulse exercise machine, and a high-tech standing frame, enabling Howard to stand for much of the day and communicate independently.
